Pictured on Saturday 10th May at Corfe Castle is The Fifty Fund’s locomotive 50031 ‘Hood’ which was making its first ever visit to the Swanage Railway for the 2014 Diesel Gala.
Wulfrun Consulting was proud to sponsor the locomotive during the event where it appeared renumbered and renamed on one side masquerading as 50011 ‘Centurion’.
Wulfrun Consulting spokesman Daniel Cartwright, a fund shareholder since 2010, said: "I was on the British Rail YTS scheme in 1987 when the news broke on 20th February that a Class 50 had been withdrawn – we checked on TOPS and couldn’t believe it! Some of the lads left work early and headed to Crewe to see its final trip…”
50011 was the first class 50 to be withdrawn, just 19 years after delivery to British Rail in April 1968 as D411. It was named in August 1979 and cut up at the BREL Works in Crewe during September 1992.
All profits made from the cost of this sponsorship will be used to help pay the bills and further repairs to the fund’s locomotives; 50031 ‘Hood’, 50035 ‘Ark Royal’, 50044 ‘Exeter’ and 50049 ‘Defiance’.
